Resumen

Huggins hace una amplia exposición de sus experimentos, los cuales tenían, en primer lugar, el propósito de demostrar que las líneas negras de las sustancias estelares correspondían a las líneas brillantes de los elementos terrestres. Compara el espectro de la estrella Sirio y el del Hidrógeno terrestre y encuentra que en el del astro existe una línea negra que corresponde a la línea brillante del elemento analizado en la tierra.
